Borussia Dortmund Close on Loan Deal for Aarón Anselmino

Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement for 20-year-old defender Aarón Anselmino to join the German side on loan. While each move is being handled as a separate negotiation, Dortmund is also in the process of making midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka’s permanent transfer from Chelsea, suggesting the two arrangements are tied behind the scenes. Notably, there is no purchase option included in Anselmino’s loan deal.
Anselmino has been part of Chelsea since January, having arrived earlier than originally planned following his transfer from Boca Juniors. Despite his arrival, he’s had limited playing time, only making a brief appearance in the Club World Cup.
Head coach Enzo Maresca acknowledged Anselmino’s potential, describing him as “a fantastic boy” but noted there’s currently no clear opportunity for him to feature regularly, adding that the player “needs to go and play games” elsewhere.
With that in mind, the loan to Dortmund represents an ideal solution for Anselmino to gain match experience and for Chelsea to provide him a clear path toward development.
