Written by on 3 — 11

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially released the seeding pots for the 2025/26 CAF Champions League group stage draw, with continental heavyweights Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns, Espérance de Tunis, and Morocco’s RS Berkane occupying Pot 1.

The draw is set for Monday, November 3, 2025, in Johannesburg, South Africa. It will determine the group pairings for Africa’s elite club competition as 16 teams battle for continental glory.

According to CAF, the seedings were determined based on each club’s performances over the last five seasons in CAF competitions.

Here’s how the pots stand:

Pot 1: Al Ahly (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), RS Berkane (Morocco).

Pot 2: Simba SC (Tanzania), Pyramids FC (Egypt), Al Hilal (Sudan), Young Africans (Tanzania).

Pot 3: Atlético Petro de Luanda (Angola), AS FAR (Morocco), MC Alger (Algeria), Rivers United (Nigeria).

Pot 4: JS Kabylie (Algeria), Stade Malien (Mali), FC St Éloi Lupopo (DR Congo), Power Dynamos (Zambia).

Nigeria’s Rivers United will be flying the country’s flag once again after sealing qualification through a solid run in the preliminary rounds. However, their placement in Pot 3 means they could face tough opposition, including the likes of Al Ahly or Sundowns, when the draw is made.

This year’s competition will also mark RS Berkane’s first ever appearance as a top seed, following their strong performances in the CAF Confederation Cup and their consistent rise in continental football.
