Osimhen Injury Doubt Casts Shadow Over Super Eagles’ Clash With Egypt

Nigeria’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations third place playoff against Egypt have suffered a potential setback following concerns over the fitness of star striker Victor Osimhen.
The Super Eagles forward is a major doubt for the encounter after sustaining an ankle injury during Nigeria’s dramatic semi final defeat to host Morocco. Osimhen was withdrawn late in extra time and did not take part in the ensuing penalty shootout, raising immediate concerns about his condition.
Head coach Eric Chelle later confirmed that the decision to substitute Osimhen was influenced by both tactical considerations and the injury the striker picked up towards the end of the match. According to the coach, the medical team is still assessing the extent of the problem ahead of the showdown with Egypt.
Osimhen has been one of Nigeria’s most influential players at the tournament, leading the line with his physical presence, pressing intensity, and goal threat. His potential absence would represent a significant blow as the Super Eagles aim to end their AFCON campaign on a positive note.
Should Osimhen fail to recover in time, Chelle may be forced to reshuffle his attack, with options such as Paul Onuachu or Akor Adams expected to be considered to spearhead the Nigerian frontline.
Nigeria will face Egypt in the third place match as both sides look to salvage pride after missing out on a place in the final. However, all eyes remain on Osimhen’s fitness as the Super Eagles await a final decision from the medical team.
