The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has expressed overwhelming confidence in the country’s ability to achieve sporting greatness, attributing the potential to a deep reservoir of talented administrators and professionals.
Speaking following the conclusion of the National Council on Sports meeting held in Cross Rivers State, Olopade asserted that the Nigerian sports community is “rich with smart and capable individuals who can drive the sector to greatness.”
The DG disclosed that a key outcome of the recent meeting was the strategic expansion of the National Council of Sports. This expansion is intended to incorporate a wider array of perspectives, fostering more comprehensive and holistic contributions to policy development and sports administration across the nation.
In an obvious move aimed at restoring integrity to grassroots and elite competitions, Olopade announced that the Council has taken decisive action against ethical misconduct.
”Age cheating in sports has now been criminalized as part of ongoing reforms to reposition the sector,” the Director General stated.
This decision signals a serious commitment from the NSC to enforce stricter compliance with ethical standards, ensuring a level playing field for Nigerian athletes and safeguarding the integrity of the country’s sporting records on the international stage.
