Awoniyi’s Comeback Strike Seals Crucial 2-0 Win As Forest Stun Brentford

Written by on 26 — 01

Nottingham Forest strengthened their bid to stay clear of the Premier League relegation zone with a confident 2-0 victory over Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday. Forest, who had been under pressure after mixed recent results, delivered a disciplined performance to secure all three points against a strong home side.

Forest drew first blood in the 12th minute when Igor Jesus finished clinically following a well worked team move, giving the visitors an early advantage. Brentford pressed for an equaliser throughout the first half and beyond but were unable to convert their chances against an organised Forest defence.

The decisive moment came late in the second half as Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi capped a powerful cameo by running onto a forward ball, outpacing a defender and coolly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper in the 79th minute. It was Awoniyi’s first league goal of the season, a significant milestone following a long spell out of goals due to injury.

Forest’s disciplined defensive display, combined with clinical finishing, ensured they maintained a five point gap over the relegation zone, delivering a timely boost to their survival ambitions.
