African shot put star and Commonwealth Games medallist, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, has officially withdrawn from the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games slated for November 7–21 in Saudi Arabia.
The competition, which will be hosted at the 22,000 capacity Prince Faisal bin Fahd Sports City Stadium, was expected to feature some of the continent’s biggest names in athletics.
However, Enekwechi, Nigeria’s national record holder and Africa’s all time best in shot put with a mark of 22.10m has decided to skip the event to focus on what insiders describe as “a special personal milestone.”
Sources close to the 31 year old revealed that the athlete is prioritizing preparations for his upcoming wedding, a decision that has earned admiration from fans and colleagues who praised him for maintaining balance between career and personal life.
Enekwechi, who has consistently represented Nigeria with pride at major international competitions, is expected to return to full competition next season as he continues his build up toward the 2026 Commonwealth Games and next year’s World Championships
