Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel has booked his place in the men’s 400m hurdles final at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
The 21 year old stormed to victory in his semifinal heat, clocking 47.47 seconds, the fastest qualifying time across the board. His performance also made him the first Nigerian man since 1987 to reach the final of the 400m hurdles at the World Championships.
Nathaniel, who ran from lane 8 in the semifinals, will compete from lane 6 in the final, where he faces a tough field that includes world record holder Karsten Warholm of Norway, Olympic silver medallist Rai Benjamin of the United States, and Brazil’s Alison dos Santos.
