Nigeria’s U17 national team, the Golden Eaglets, have once again underlined their quality at the WAFU B U17 Championship after four of their key players were selected in the tournament’s Best XI from the group stage.
The announcement, made by the Technical Study Group of the regional competition, highlighted the outstanding performances of David Edeh, Boluwatife Thompson, George Agha, and Godwin Menyaga.
Team captain Edeh has been instrumental in leading the squad, while Thompson’s explosive pace on the wings troubled opponents throughout the group matches. Agha’s memorable hat-trick against Benin Republic secured his place among the standout players, and Menyaga’s solid defensive displays provided stability at the back.
Beyond their inclusion in the Best XI, both Agha and Thompson also claimed individual Man of the Match awards during the group stage, further proof of Nigeria’s depth and attacking firepower.
The recognition comes on the same day the Golden Eaglets prepare for their semi-final showdown against Ghana’s Black Starlets. The much-anticipated clash kicks off at 8:00 p.m. Nigerian time, with the winner guaranteed a spot in the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco..
Nigeria will be aiming to build on their strong group stage form and continue their push for regional supremacy, with eyes firmly set on qualification for Morocco 2026.
