Ikorodu City Coach Ali Kandil: “We’re Ready to Build on Last Season’s Success”

Ikorodu City head coach Ali Kandil says winning the prestigious Value Jet Cup in pre-season has boosted his side’s confidence ahead of the new Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign.
The Lagos-based club, who impressed in their debut NPFL season, will be looking to build on that strong start as they prepare for their first fixture of the new campaign against Kwara United.
Reflecting on pre-season preparations, Kandil expressed optimism about the team’s direction.
“Winning the Value Jet is a big confidence booster. It gave the players belief in the work we’re doing and showed that our preparations are moving in the right direction. Of course, it’s a pre-season tournament, but testing ourselves against some of the best clubs in the country gives us momentum going into the season,” he said.
Kandil acknowledged the challenges that come with competing in Nigeria’s top division but stressed that his side is focused on achieving consistency and staying true to their attacking style of play.
“Debut seasons are always tricky, but we were able to do well. This time, it’s all about achieving some consistency that we can build on for the future. The fans can expect the same attacking, high-intensity football that represents Ikorodu City’s identity. Our goal is to consolidate our place in the league and keep pushing forward step by step,” he added.
The coach also had a heartfelt message for the club’s loyal fan base.
“I want to thank the fans for the amazing support they’ve shown so far. They’ve stuck by us even when things weren’t going well. This season, we need your energy, your passion, and your voices once again. We promise to give our best and achieve great heights for the club,” Kandil said.
Ikorodu City will look to carry their pre-season form into their opening game as they seek to establish themselves as one of the NPFL’s rising forces.
