Lagos Extends Lead in Medal Table at 9th National Youth Games in Asaba

The battle for supremacy at the 9th National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba has intensified, with Team Lagos pulling ahead of the chasing pack in the latest medal standings.

Lagos has climbed to the summit of the medal table with an impressive 61 medals, comprising 33 gold, 15 silver, and 23 bronze. The feat places the state above close rivals Edo and host state Delta, both of whom remain strong contenders as the Games head into their closing stages.

Edo State currently sits second with 41 medals (25 gold, 9 silver, 15 bronze), while defending champions Delta State are in third position with 59 medals (17 gold, 20 silver, 22 bronze).

Earlier in the week, Edo had taken an early lead with 11 golds, but Lagos gradually overtook as events progressed. Delta, despite its dominance in the last eight editions, now faces a stern challenge to reclaim its crown on home soil.

So far, more than 29 states have registered medals, underlining the competitiveness of this year’s edition. Notable mentions include Kwara, Bayelsa, Abia, and Akwa Ibom, all of whom have made significant contributions to the overall tally.

The National Youth Games, organized by the National Sports Commission, continues to serve as a critical platform for discovering and nurturing young athletic talent across Nigeria.
