The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Saturday, September 27, 2025, held its 81st Annual General Assembly at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, Orita-Mefa, Ibadan, with far-reaching decisions taken on the future of Nigerian football.
Declaring the assembly open, NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, MON, expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the Federal Government’s unwavering support to Nigerian football and all national teams. The Congress also lauded the National Sports Commission, under Mallam Shehu Dikko, for its steadfast partnership in advancing the Federation’s programmes.
The Assembly further commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for hosting the General Assembly and for the state’s remarkable hospitality in welcoming the U20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, for their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. Delegates affirmed Ibadan’s readiness to host major international football competitions.
Global football leaders were not left out as the Congress extended appreciation to FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe for their consistent backing of Nigerian football at both international and continental levels.
Reviewing national team performances, the Congress celebrated the Super Falcons for clinching their 10th Women Africa Cup of Nations title and the Super Eagles for qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Commendations also went to the Flying Eagles, Falconets, and Flamingos for their performances on the global stage.
The Assembly endorsed the NFF Executive Committee’s commitment to ensuring the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and emphasized the need for sustained technical and administrative support for all national teams.
Financial matters took center stage as the audited accounts for the year ending December 31, 2024, presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers, were approved. The Congress also sanctioned the advertisement of the external auditors’ position following the completion of PwC’s mandatory tenure. In addition, the Federation’s 2026 budget proposal was adopted.
On development, the Assembly underscored grassroots football as a strategic priority, urging intensified efforts in talent discovery, refereeing, coaching education, and infrastructure in line with FIFA and CAF directives. The Congress also acknowledged progress in amending the NFF Statutes (2010, as amended) and pledged to convene an Extraordinary General Assembly to conclude the process.
Commendation was given to domestic leagues — the NPFL, NNL, NWFL, and NLO — for steady improvements, with a call on state governments to invest more in quality football infrastructure that meets international standards.
The Congress observed a moment of reflection, offering condolences to families and stakeholders who lost loved ones within the year.
In conclusion, a unanimous vote of confidence was passed on the NFF Executive Committee led by Alhaji Gusau for what was described as exemplary leadership in steering Nigerian football forward.
The communique was prepared by a drafting committee chaired by Chief Paul Edeh, LLD, FCPA, with Barr. Tony O. Ugwu, Hon. Idris Abdullahi Musa, Mr. Emmanuel Attah, and Dr. Ademola Qlaiire serving as members.
The resolutions were officially adopted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
