The Super Eagles are set to conclude 2025 in the 38th position globally, as per the latest FIFA rankings published on Monday.
Nigeria’s ranking has remained consistent since the last update on November 19, which had seen the Eagles ascend three spots from 41st. They also maintained their status as the sixth-best team in Africa.
In general, 2025 was a year of mixed results for the Super Eagles, yet they ended the year six positions higher than their starting point, having begun the year ranked 44th in the world.
The first ranking of the year, released in April, indicated Nigeria’s rise by one position to 43rd. However, this improvement was short-lived, as the Eagles fell one spot in each of the subsequent two ranking periods, dropping to 44th in July and 45th in September.
The October ranking represented a significant turnaround, with Nigeria climbing four positions to 41st, marking their largest increase in a single update since they surged 14 places in February 2024 after securing a silver medal at AFCON in Ivory Coast. The November ranking then saw the Eagles advance an additional three spots to 38th, where they currently stand.
Across Africa, Morocco continues to be the top-ranked team, remaining steady at 11th in the world. Senegal holds the second position in Africa and 19th globally. Algeria has moved up one spot to 34th, pushing Egypt down to 35th and fifth on the continent.
The top 10 teams in the world have not changed. European champions Spain concluded the year in the number one spot, followed by world champions Argentina in second place, with France in third. England is in fourth, while Brazil rounds out the top five.
Portugal is ranked sixth, with the Netherlands in seventh place. Belgium, Germany, and Croatia occupy the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions, respectively.
The next FIFA ranking is scheduled for release on January 19, 2026, a day after the AFCON final in Morocco.
