Nigeria’s Yusuf Adeniji Crowned WBA Africa Featherweight Champion

Written by on 3 — 10

Nigeria’s boxing rising star, Yusuf Adeniji, has been crowned the WBA Africa Featherweight Champion after defeating Ghana’s Akimos Anaang Apiah.

The highly anticipated contest ended in the fifth round when Apiah was disqualified for an intentional low blow, handing Adeniji the continental title under the World Boxing Association banner.

From the opening bell, Adeniji asserted his dominance, controlling the pace with sharp jabs, clever footwork, and clean punches. The Nigerian’s superior tactics frustrated Apiah, who received a warning for low blows in the fourth round. However, another illegal shot in the fifth left Adeniji in visible pain, forcing the referee to stop the fight after consulting with the ringside physician.

At the time of the stoppage, the judges’ scorecards were unanimously in Adeniji’s favor 50-46, 50-45, 50-45 — showing his control throughout the clash.

The victory not only secured Adeniji his 17th professional career win (17-1, 10 KOs) but also confirmed his growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s brightest boxing prospects on the African and global stage.
