  NYG 2025: Lagos Female Volleyball, Handball Teams Storm Semi Final

Team Lagos continued its impressive run at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, with dominant displays across various sporting events.

In volleyball, the Lagos female side cruised into the semi-finals after a 2-0 (25-12, 25-21) victory over hosts Delta State before overpowering Oyo 2-0 (25-18, 25-7) in their second group game. Their male counterparts also sealed a semi-final berth with a commanding 2-0 (25-19, 25-7) win against Bayelsa.

The Lagos female handball team showed grit to edge past Imo 9-8 and secure a place in the last four. Their male team, however, faces Abia today in a quarter-final clash at the Cenotaph Playing Ground, Asaba.

On the basketball court, the Eko boys proved their resilience by edging Niger State 6-4 to book a quarter-final spot. They will next face Bauchi State at the Squash Club, Government House, Asaba.

Meanwhile, in hockey, defending champions Lagos female team made a bold statement with a 4-0 demolition of Plateau to advance to the semi-finals.

The state also recorded progress in boxing, with representatives moving into the quarter-finals across multiple categories: female 40kg, 38kg, 42kg, and male 40kg and 44kg divisions. Bouts are ongoing at St. Patrick College Hall, Asaba.

Adding to the medal haul, Team Lagos excelled in other events:

Table Tennis: 1 gold, 1 silver, 3 bronze

Golf: 1 gold

Gymnastics: 3 gold, 2 silver
