Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika was on target as Club Brugge began their UEFA Champions League campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over AS Monaco on Wednesday night.
Onyedika doubled the Belgian side’s lead in the 39th minute after Nicolo Tresoldi had opened the scoring seven minutes earlier. Captain Hans Vanaken made it 3-0 before half-time, while Mamadou Diakhon added a fourth in the 75th minute.
Monaco grabbed a late consolation through Ansu Fati, whose deflected strike found the net in stoppage time.
There was also Nigerian interest on the bench for Brugge, as Kaye Furo, the 18-year-old son of former Super Eagles defender Furo Iyenemi, was named among the substitutes but did not feature.
