Written by on 3 — 10

It was a night of high drama in the Saudi Women’s Premier League as Asisat Oshoala struck a stoppage time winner to seal a 3-2 victory for Al Hilal against Ashleigh Plumptre’s Al Ittihad on Thursday.

The clash, which pitted two Super Falcons teammates against each other, lived up to expectations with late twists and unforgettable moments.

Al Ittihad drew first blood in the 25th minute when Letícia Nunes fired home. But Al Hilal responded strongly, with Jessica Silva leveling in the 40th minute before adding a second just after the restart to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.

Al Ittihad refused to fold, and in the 85th minute, Ashleigh Plumptre’s precise delivery from a set piece found Lina Boussaha, who headed in the equaliser to make it 2-2 and spark wild celebrations from the home crowd.

Just when the match seemed destined for a draw, Oshoala stepped up once again for Al Hilal. In the 93rd minute, the Nigerian forward latched onto a pass from Silva to slot home the decisive goal, breaking Al Ittihad hearts and securing maximum points for the league leaders.

The result extended Al Hilal’s unbeaten run and underlined Oshoala’s blistering form since arriving in Saudi Arabia, with the former Barcelona striker now scoring in four consecutive matches.

While Plumptre impressed with a late assist, it was Oshoala who had the final say.
