Osimhen Holds the Key as Super Eagles Brace for Algeria Test

Written by on 10 — 01

Victor Osimhen has been tipped as Nigeria’s biggest weapon ahead of the Super Eagles’ quarter-final clash against Algeria at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The Galatasaray striker has drawn strong praise from Italian coach Vincenzo Alberto Annese, who described Osimhen as the most dominant centre forward at the tournament so far, citing his physical presence, movement, and goalscoring instincts.

Osimhen has already found the net three times in four matches, leading Nigeria’s attack with authority as the Super Eagles continue their push for continental glory. Despite a minor on pitch disagreement with Ademola Lookman during the win over Mozambique, the former Napoli forward has remained one of the standout performers in Morocco.

Annese believes Osimhen’s profile gives Nigeria a clear edge against an Algerian side that has impressed defensively. The Desert Warriors have been solid at the back throughout the competition, with goalkeeper Luca Zidane playing a key role in their resilience and ability to keep clean sheets.

However, the Italian tactician insists that containing Osimhen for 90 minutes will be Algeria’s biggest challenge, noting that Nigeria’s attacking quality, spearheaded by the striker, could prove decisive in such an encounter.

The Super Eagles will be banking on Osimhen’s form as they look to overcome Algeria and book a place in the semi finals of the tournament.
