Galatasaray will be without star striker Victor Osimhen when they open their UEFA Champions League campaign against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Nigerian forward picked up an ankle injury during the Super Eagles’ 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda. Although he initially tried to continue, the pain forced him off minutes later.
Following the setback, Galatasaray arranged for a private jet to fly Osimhen back to Turkey for medical checks, preventing him from featuring in Nigeria’s subsequent clash with South Africa. The injury also kept him out of Gala’s Turkish Super Lig fixture against Eyüpspor.
Coach Orkan Buruk had earlier expressed hope that the 25 year old could recover in time for Europe’s biggest stage. However, those hopes were dashed after the club released its official squad list for the trip to Germany, Osimhen’s name was missing.
The absence of the prolific forward is a significant blow for Galatasaray, who will now have to rely on other attacking options to spearhead their charge in Frankfurt.
