Written by on 31 — 10

Nigeria’s basketball sensation, Rena Wakama, continues to raise the bar as she’s been officially appointed head coach of Hive BC ahead of the 2026 Unrivaled basketball season.

The 32 year old, who made history as the first female coach to win the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket with Nigeria’s D’Tigress, will now take charge of the new franchise in the fast rising American 3×3 women’s basketball league, Unrivaled.

Wakama, who also serves as an assistant coach with the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, has built a growing reputation for her tactical intelligence and leadership on and off the court. Her latest appointment adds another remarkable chapter to a coaching journey.

Hive BC is one of the expansion teams for the upcoming Unrivaled season, and Wakama’s arrival signals the club’s intent to compete strongly from day one. The 2026 campaign will see the league grow from six to eight teams, with a promise of more excitement, flair, and star power.
