Rivers United have booked their place in the CAF Champions League group stage after a thrilling 3-1 victory over Black Bulls of Mozambique on Sunday, sealing a 3-2 aggregate win.
The Pride of Rivers bounced back from a 1-0 first leg defeat with a dominant performance in Port Harcourt, ensuring their progression to the prestigious group phase of Africa’s elite club competition.
Wasiu Falolu opened the scoring early in the game to draw Rivers United level on aggregate before Maclyn Biokpo converted from the penalty spot in the 42nd minute to extend their lead. Timothy Zachariah added a third in the second half to put the result beyond doubt.
Despite a late consolation goal from Black Bulls, gather, Findings Gerorge’s men held firm to secure the all important qualification, marking it the first time since the 2018/19 season that a Nigerian club will feature in the CAF Champions League group stage.
Rivers United will now await the official draw to learn their group stage opponents as they continue their quest for continental glory.
