Former Chelsea FC owner, Roman Abramovich, has reportedly set his sights on Turkish football giants Galatasaray S.K., with multiple Turkish media outlets claiming the billionaire is in talks to acquire a significant stake in the club.
According to leading Turkish newspaper Sözcü, Abramovich is “planning to purchase shares of Galatasaray and become one of its largest shareholders.” The report suggests that the Russian businessman, who has maintained a low public profile since selling Chelsea in 2022, has been exploring new football investment opportunities across Europe, with Galatasaray now emerging as a key target.
Sports outlet Turkish-Football.com also confirmed that Abramovich has been linked with an investment in the Istanbul-based club but noted that Galatasaray’s structure, owned and operated by a foundation and club members makes a full or majority takeover legally complex.
Similarly, Zamin.uz, citing Sözcü’s report, claimed that Abramovich has already begun buying Galatasaray shares and recently purchased a villa in Istanbul, signaling his growing interest in Turkey’s football scene.
As of now, neither Galatasaray nor Abramovich’s representatives have issued an official statement confirming any deal. The reports remain speculative, though they have sparked major discussions among Turkish football fans and international observers.
If confirmed, Abramovich’s involvement would mark one of the most high profile foreign investments in Turkish football history.
