Written by on 20 — 10

Saudi Arabia is set to redefine the future of sports architecture with its ambitious plan to build the world’s first sky stadium, officially named the NEOM Stadium, within its futuristic linear city, The Line.

According to verified details from Saudi Arabia’s 2034 FIFA World Cup bid documents and multiple reputable media spurces, , the stadium will be located approximately 350 metres above ground level, making it one of the most striking sports structures ever conceived.

The NEOM Stadium will boast a seating capacity of around 46,000 spectators and will be entirely powered by renewable energy, in line with the broader sustainability goals of the NEOM megacity project. The structure will be integrated into The Line’s unique vertical urban environment, with access restricted to driverless vehicles and high speed lifts rather than conventional road networks.

Construction is expected to commence by 2027, with completion targeted for 2032, ahead of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, for which Saudi Arabia is the confirmed host nation. According to the official bid, the NEOM Stadium is expected to host matches up to the quarterfinal stage of the global tournament.

While the stadium remains at the conceptual stage, Saudi authorities have emphasized that the project reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global sports leadership as part of Vision 2030, a national plan to diversify the economy and enhance tourism and entertainment infrastructure.

If completed as proposed, the NEOM Stadium would stand as a global engineering marvel, symbolizing a bold fusion of technology, sustainability, and architectural vision and positioning Saudi Arabia at the forefront of futuristic sports venue design.
