Simeone Hails Osimhen as Galatasaray Hold Atletico Madrid

Written by on 23 — 01

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone has praised Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen following Galatasaray’s 1–1 draw with the Spanish side in the UEFA Champions League.

The encounter, played at the RAMS Park in Istanbul, saw Atlético take an early lead through Giuliano Simeone, before Galatasaray fought back to restore parity via an own goal from Marcos Llorente.

Osimhen, who played the full 90 minutes for the Turkish champions, was a constant menace to the Atlético defence with his pace, strength and aerial presence, despite failing to find the back of the net.

Speaking after the game, Simeone admitted his side struggled to contain the Super Eagles forward, describing Osimhen as a powerful and influential attacker whose presence changed the dynamics of the match.

The Nigerian striker was making a return to top level action after recovering from injury sustained during international duty, and his performance drew attention.

The result keeps Galatasaray’s qualification hopes alive, with all eyes now on their final group fixture, while Atlético Madrid remain under pressure to secure progression from the group.
