Super Eagles End Pay Row, Promise Firepower Against Gabon

Written by on 13 — 11

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have put their pay dispute behind them and vowed to deliver victory when they face Gabon in Thursday’s all important 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff in Rabat, Morocco.

The players had earlier staged a one day strike over unpaid bonuses and allowances dating as far back as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Training was briefly halted, raising concern about the team’s preparation for the decisive tie.

Following urgent talks between the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the National Sports Commission (NSC), and senior team officials, the players agreed to suspend their protest in the national interest. Sources inside the camp revealed that the squad received firm assurances that their entitlements would be paid before or immediately after the game.

With tensions eased, the team returned to full training on Wednesday and looked upbeat ahead of the clash at Stade Prince Moulay El Hassan in Rabat.

Thursday’s encounter is crucial, a win sends Nigeria into the final round of the African playoffs set for November 16, while a defeat would abruptly end their World Cup qualification campaign.

Despite the brief off field setback, the Super Eagles have promised to channel their energy into producing a dominant performance and securing a result that will reignite the nation’s World Cup dream.
