Team Nigeria Qualify for U-12 AJC After 3-0 Defeat of Benin

Written by on 18 — 09

Team Nigeria’s U-12 girls’ tennis squad have booked their place at the prestigious All Junior Championships (AJC) after recording a resounding 3-0 victory over Benin Republic at the ongoing ITF/CAT West and Central Africa U-12 Team Championships in Accra, Ghana.

The Nigerian side, made up of Mofifunoluwa Atilola, Mabubat Rasaki, and Karina Opuene, have been in imperious form all week, securing clean sweeps against Togo, Liberia, and now Benin Republic, without dropping a single tie.

Once again, Atilola underlined her dominance on court, producing back-to-back bagels (6-0 set wins) against opponents from Togo and Benin. The youngster has only lost two games throughout the entire competition, making her one of the standout players of the tournament.

Nigeria’s triumph over Benin sealed their qualification for the AJC, and the girls will now turn their attention to their clash against host nation Ghana on Friday, 19 September 2025, as they aim to round off their group campaign in style.

While the girls have excelled, it has been a contrasting outing for the boys’ team, who have struggled to make an impact and are unlikely to qualify after a string of defeats.
