Nigeria’s teenage sprint star, Samuel Ogazi, has leveled strong accusations against national team officials after his disappointing exit in the first round of the men’s 400m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
According to reports kojitored by Sure97.5FM the youngstar revealed that he had warned officials about a troubling hamstring injury but was still compelled to compete.
“I told Team Nigeria officials that I wasn’t ready for this race. My hamstring was bothering me, but they still insisted I should run. I did what I could, and that’s the outcome,” Ogazi said.
The youngster, who has been touted as one of Nigeria’s brightest prospects, explained that he first felt discomfort during training earlier in the week.
“Back home I had a good workout on Tuesday, but on Wednesday I felt some shakes and tweaks in my hamstring. Everyone who knows me knows I don’t like to run with injuries. I told them I didn’t think I was ready, but they said I should go out there and give it my all. Even during warm up, the doctor taped my leg, but I told him I wasn’t healthy enough to compete,” Ogazi added.
