Tobi Amusan Speaks on Pressure of Carrying Nigeria’s Medal Hopes

Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan has opened up on the weight of expectations that comes with representing the country at global championships.
Speaking after her recent outing, the world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles shared how overwhelming it can feel to bear the hopes of millions.
“Una no dey try. This my small body, una put the whole country for my back,” Amusan said with a mix of humor and honesty.
Despite the immense pressure, Amusan maintained that her motivation goes beyond personal glory.
“But this is bigger than me. I come out here, and I do what I have to do for myself and my country. I am glad that any time I come out to a championship, win or lose, I still show up,” she expressed.
