Werder Bremen have confirmed that Nigerian international Felix Agu will be sidelined for several months after suffering a syndesmosis ligament injury during their 1-0 home victory over FC St. Pauli.
According to an official statement released by the Bundesliga club, MRI and X-ray examinations conducted by team doctor Robert Gorzolla on Monday revealed the extent of the damage. The club added that several treatment options are being considered to aid the defender’s recovery.
Agu, who was substituted shortly before halftime following an awkward challenge, will now miss Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic.
The 24 year old full back has been one of Werder Bremen’s standout performers this season and was recently named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the upcoming qualifiers. His absence comes as a major blow for both club and country.
