Atalanta Weighs Lookman’s Readiness for Lecce Clash

Written by on 12 — 09

Ademola Lookman could finally feature for Atalanta this weekend, with the club expected to decide in the coming days if he is fit enough to return against Lecce.

The Super Eagles forward has not played a competitive game for the Serie A side since the close of last season. His proposed switch to Inter Milan fell through in the summer, and tensions with Atalanta further delayed his reintegration.

Despite missing club football, Lookman was called up by Nigeria and saw action in both World Cup qualifiers earlier this month, against Rwanda and South Africa. He lasted 75 minutes in Kigali and completed the full 90 in Uyo, but appeared short of his usual sharpness in front of goal.

Back in Bergamo, manager Ivan Jurić and his coaching staff are set to monitor his condition closely, factoring in the effects of international duty and long-distance travel. A key training session on Friday is expected to determine if the winger is cleared to join full training and make the matchday squad for Sunday’s Serie A fixture.
