Former Super Eagles defender Anaemena Ifeanyi has officially transitioned from the pitch to the boardroom, taking up the role of Sporting Director at Kun Khalifat FC after an illustrious 20 year playing career.
Anaemena, who began his professional journey in 2005, proudly represented Nigeria in the famous green and white jersey and also played club football outside the country. He capped off his career in style by lifting the 2024/25 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title, his third league triumph with three different clubs.
Reflecting on his journey, Anaemena admitted he never had the opportunity to formally announce his retirement, citing the challenges within the NPFL.
“When you hear there is dignity in labour, against all odds, I stood in active football for 20 years. It’s unfortunate I didn’t announce my retirement because of the nature of the NPFL. I pray one day the league will be better than what it has been,” he said.
