Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike bowed out of the men’s 200m event at the World Athletics Championships after finishing 7th in the last semifinal heat. The former U20 World Champion clocked 20.26s, ending his quest to reach the final.
The race was dominated by reigning World Champion Noah Lyles, who stormed to victory in a blistering World Lead (WL) of 19.51s, reaffirming his dominance in the sprint event. Zharnel Hughes followed in 2nd place with 19.95s, while South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile impressed with a Personal Best (PB) of 19.98s to secure 3rd.
With Onwuzurike’s exit, Nigeria will not feature in the men’s 200m final, but his performances continue to make evident his growing potential on the global stage.
