The Nigeria National League (NNL) has secured a landmark sponsorship agreement worth N494.4 million with sports betting company betPawa, a deal that is expected to transform the country’s second tier football.
The one year partnership introduces the innovative “Locker Room Bonus” (LRB) scheme, which will see players and technical staff of winning teams receive instant cash rewards after every victory.
Under the arrangement, a total of N1.288 million will be shared per win among 20 registered players and three technical crew members, with each individual receiving N56,000. In addition, the NNL will earn N400,000 per match as a facilitation fee for its administrative role.
According to NNL Chairman, George Aluo, the deal is proof that ongoing reforms and rebranding of the league are beginning to yield results. He described the sponsorship as “a bold step towards improving welfare and professionalism in Nigeria’s lower league.”
NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, also welcomed the initiative, stressing that timely and structured payments will motivate players and help reduce the exodus of talents abroad.
betPawa’s Local Marketing/CSR head, Borah Omary Ndanyungu, explained that the scheme is more than just financial support, but a deliberate effort to build structure, accountability, and respect within Nigerian football.
