Remo Stars Set Up Clash with Mamelodi Sundowns After Seeing Off Zilmadjou

Written by on 26 — 09

Remo Stars have progressed to the second preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League after completing a comfortable victory over Comorian champions US Zilmadjou.

The Nigerian side sealed their passage with a 1–0 win in Abeokuta on Friday, adding to the 4–0 triumph they secured in the first leg played at the same venue last week. Midfielder Alex Oyowah scored the only goal of the return leg from the penalty spot, ensuring a 5–0 aggregate result.

Zilmadjou, who fielded a weakened squad for the away fixture, were unable to cope with the pace and organisation of the Sky Blue Stars across both matches.

With the result, Remo Stars now face a much sterner test against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, last season’s CAF Champions League runners-up and former continental champions.

The first leg of the tie will take place in Abeokuta between October 17–19, while the return fixture is scheduled for October 24–26 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria. The winner over the two legs will book a coveted place in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
