Rodgers Backs Iheanacho After Bright Display in Celtic Draw with Hibernian

Written by on 29 — 09

Celtic forward Kelechi Iheanacho impressed on his first start at Celtic Park despite the Hoops being held to a goalless draw by Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

The Nigerian international, who joined the Scottish champions this summer, came close to breaking the deadlock when his effort rattled the crossbar before making way for Benjamin Nygren in the 67th minute.

Manager Brendan Rodgers, himself a past FA Cup winner, praised Iheanacho’s overall contribution, highlighting his link up play and presence in attack.

“Kels will probably feel he should have scored once or twice, but as a reference point for the team, with his touch and movement, I thought he was very good,” Rodgers said.

The result keeps Celtic unbeaten in the league, though they now sit second on the table, two points adrift of leaders Hearts.
