Victor Osimhen Extends Scoring Streak Against Premier League Clubs, Fires Galatasaray Past Liverpool

Written by on 1 — 10

Super Eagles’ striker Victor Osimhen continues to underline his reputation as one of Europe’s deadliest forwards after netting the decisive penalty in Galatasaray’s 1-0 Champions League victory over Liverpool at Rams Park.

The Super Eagles star, who was named Man of the Match, has now scored four goals in five European appearances against English Premier League sides, according to stats from Transfermarkt.

Osimhen first announced himself against English opposition in the 2019/20 Champions League, when he found the net for Lille against Chelsea. Two years later, he scored twice for Napoli in a thrilling 2-2 Europa League draw with Leicester City.

His latest strike came on Tuesday night, where his coolly-taken penalty sealed a famous win for Galatasaray and extended his fine record against Liverpool, having faced the Reds three times in the Champions League with two wins, one defeat, and a goal to his name.

With that goal, the 26 year old forward also made history, becoming Nigeria’s all-time leading scorer in the UEFA Champions League with 10 goals in 18 appearances, surpassing the previous record of nine set by Obafemi Martins.
