Moses Itauma Dreams of Fighting in Nigeria, Calls It the ‘End Goal’ of His Boxing Career

Written by on 3 — 10

Fast rising heavyweight boxer Moses Itauma has set his sights on a career defining milestone fighting in Nigeria, the homeland of his father. The 20 year old unbeaten prospect described staging a bout in Nigeria as the “end goal” of his boxing journey.

Itauma, born in Slovakia and raised in Chatham, England, has already fought professionally in England, Scotland, and Riyadh, but he admits nothing would mean more than stepping into the ring in front of Nigerian fans.

During his first visit to Lagos in more than 15 years, Itauma was welcomed warmly by Nigerians who proudly embraced him as one of their own. The heavyweight southpaw said the experience reinforced his desire to box in Nigeria, adding that talks to make the dream fight happen are now in the “final stages.”

“I’ve always said that fighting in Nigeria is the end goal of my journey,” Itauma said.

Before his Nigerian dream becomes reality, Itauma is scheduled to return to the ring on December 13 at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester. His potential opponents include David Adeleye and Michael Hunter.

The young heavyweight also addressed speculation that he had turned down an IBF final eliminator against Frank Sanchez, clarifying that the fight “was never on the table.”

Although he represents Britain in the professional ranks, Itauma says his Nigerian heritage remains central to his identity. For him, fighting in Nigeria is not just about boxing but about connecting with his roots and inspiring a new generation of African fighters.
