Nigeria’s men’s national hockey team wrapped up their campaign at the 12th Men’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ismaïlia, Egypt, with a hard-fought 3–1 victory over Kenya to secure the bronze medal on Saturday.
The West Africans displayed a high level of focus at the Suez Canal Authority Hockey Stadium, bouncing back from their semifinal loss to end the tournament on a high note. Kenya, who had earlier edged Nigeria 2–1 during the group stage, could not withstand the Nigerians’ attacking response in the third-place playoff.
The win marks a significant achievement for Nigerian hockey, reaffirming the team’s steady progress on the continental stage. Nigeria now finish third overall in the tournament, behind Egypt and South Africa, who battled for the gold medal later in the evening.
