Tayo Kuburat Popoola has been elected as the new President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) following the withdrawal of the incumbent, Chief Jonathan Nnaji, from the race.
The election, which took place during the NTF elective congress, saw Popoola emerge unopposed under the supervision of officials from the Federal Ministry of Sports Development.
Popoola, who previously served as the federation’s vice president, becomes one of the few women to lead a major sports federation in Nigeria.
Speaking after her emergence, Popoola thanked stakeholders and delegates for the confidence reposed in her, promising to run an open and inclusive administration that will prioritise athlete development and grassroots growth.
“I’m deeply honoured to have been chosen to lead this great federation. My focus will be on empowering our athletes, strengthening our structures, and restoring Taekwondo’s glory both locally and internationally,” she said.
