Flying Eagles Boss Aliyu Zubair Lands Egyptian Job with Telecom SC

Written by on 2 — 11

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubair, has secured a new role abroad after being unveiled as the new head coach of Telecom Egypt SC, a club competing in the Egyptian second tier league.

The unveiling ceremony took place at the club’s headquarters in Cairo, where Zubair signed a two year deal that will see him lead Telecom’s push for promotion to the Egyptian Premier League.

The move comes on the back of Zubair’s run with Nigeria’s U20 team, which he guided to the FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, following a strong campaign at the AFCON U20, where the Flying Eagles finished with a bronze medal and qualified for the global showpiece.

Before taking charge of the national side, the gaffer built a solid reputation in the domestic scene. He famously guided Gombe United in 2021 and El-Kanemi Warriors in 2024 to top flight.

Zubair also led El-Kanemi Warriors to victory in the 2024 President Federation Cup, adding to his earlier triumph as assistant coach when Akwa United lifted the FA Cup in 2017.

Joining him in Egypt is his trusted assistant, Lukman Ijaiya, as the duo look to bring their trademark discipline and attacking style to North Africa.

Telecom Egypt, one of the country’s most ambitious clubs, are banking on Zubair’s experience, leadership, and track record of transforming teams. With a strong financial base and modern facilities, the club believes the Nigerian tactician has what it takes to deliver promotion and stability.
