Rivers United are not taking any chances as they gear up for the CAF Champions League group stage, the Port Harcourt outfit are set to make a few last minute additions to their squad.
Head coach Finidi George revealed that the team is looking to bring in one or two new players before their opening group match, taking advantage of CAF’s rule that allows clubs to register fresh names at this stage of the competition.
Finidi explained that the move is all about adding depth and experience, saying the Champions League demands “more quality and squad balance” if the team wants to compete with the best on the continent.
Rivers United have been drawn in a tough Group A alongside defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt, Zambia’s Power Dynamos, and Moroccan powerhouse RS Berkane, last season’s CAF Confederation Cup winners.
Despite the challenge ahead, Finidi remains calm and confident. “We’ll take it game by game,” he said. “It’s about being prepared and making sure we have the right players for each battle.”
