Written by on 12 — 12

Nigeria has formally presented its bid to the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) to host the 2031 African Games, marking a major step toward bringing Africa’s flagship multisport event back to the country nearly 25 years after the memorable COJA 2003 edition.

The submission was made during high level meetings with AUSC officials, where Nigeria reiterated its readiness, infrastructure capacity, and renewed commitment to delivering a world class continental showpiece.

In making its case, Nigeria highlighted its strong track record in successfully hosting major international competitions in recent years. These include the CAA Africa U18/U20 Athletics Championships, Africa Karate Championship, ITTF Africa Youth Table Tennis Championship, African Armwrestling Championship, Badminton National Open, West Africa Para Games, and the African Cadet and Junior Taekwondo Championship, among others.

According to sports authorities, this portfolio of events demonstrates Nigeria’s operational competence and sustained preparedness to stage an event of the scale and significance of the African Games.

The AUSC is expected to review all bids before announcing the host nation for the 2031 edition.
