CAF sets new benchmark as AFCON winner’s prize money climbs to USD 10 Million

Written by on 20 — 12

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is poised to elevate its financial rewards, as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed an increase in the prize money following a recent Executive Committee meeting. The winner’s prize is now set at USD 10 million, representing a significant increase from the USD 7 million awarded in the previous tournament.

Scheduled to take place in Morocco in 2025, AFCON is underscored by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s assertion that this new prize amount will establish a record for African football and enhance its stature relative to prestigious tournaments such as the UEFA European Championship.

Furthermore, CAF will also be increasing the prize money for its club competitions, including the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup, as part of a broader initiative to bolster football infrastructure throughout the continent. Official figures are expected to be released in January.

This strategic move emphasizes CAF’s commitment to reinvesting football revenues within Africa, thereby transforming AFCON into not only a significant sporting event but also a burgeoning economic powerhouse on the global landscape.
