Nigeria booked their place in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 semi-finals with a controlled 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals at the Stade de Marrakech.

The Super Eagles’ performance was marked by tactical discipline, incisive attacking play and superior momentum in key moments, earning them a clash with hosts Morocco in the last four.

From the opening whistle, Nigeria set the tempo, controlling possession and generating the better openings against a traditionally stout Algerian defence. The Super Eagles pressed high, with Akor Adams and Victor Osimhen combining effectively in the final third. Nigeria’s early attacking intent saw Semi Ajayi’s header off a set-piece sail just over, and Ademola Lookman test goalkeeper Luca Zidane with a driven effort in the 23rd minute.

Despite enjoying extended spells of pressure, including a goal line clearance by the Algerian defence, the first 45 minutes finished goalless. Algeria managed to contain most of Nigeria’s threats, but offered very little in attack themselves, with their disciplined organisation keeping the score level 0-0 at half-time.

Nigeria picked up where they left off after the break. Within moments of the restart, Victor Osimhen rose highest to meet a delivery and powered a header into the net, breaking the deadlock and rewarding Nigeria’s early second half pressure. Shortly afterward, Akor Adams extended the lead with a composed finish from close range after a well constructed team move, putting the Super Eagles firmly in control.

The Algerian side, aiming to spring a surprise, struggled to fashion meaningful chances and were unable to penetrate Nigeria’s compact defensive structure. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali remained largely untested, preserving his clean sheet as Nigeria saw out the remaining minutes with tactical assurance.
