Wolves Step Up Chase for Nigerian Hotshot Tolu Arokodare

Written by on 29 — 08

Wolverhampton Wanderers have opened talks with Belgian side KRC Genk for red-hot Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare, and the move is already causing ripples.

Genk boss Thorsten Fink confirmed that negotiations are ongoing, which explains why the 24-year-old was left out of the squad for Thursday night’s Europa Conference League clash against Lech Poznan.

“Negotiations are underway. There’s a club interested. It was too risky for both parties to play,” Fink said, adding that he prefers to work with players who are fully focused on the task at hand.

Arokodare is one of the hottest names in Belgian football right now. Last season, he fired 21 goals to finish as Belgian Pro League top scorer, scooped the prestigious Ebony Shoe Award for best African player, and earned a place in the Team of the Season.

That blistering form has put him on the radar of Europe’s elite. Clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Napoli, Newcastle United and Fulham have all been linked with the Super Eagles striker.

But it is Wolves who have now made the first real move, with reports suggesting the Premier League side could table a bid in the region of £15–17 million.
