Spanish giants Atlético Madrid are reportedly on the verge of securing the signature of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, with a deal expected to be finalized before the close of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year old winger, currently contracted to Atalanta until June 2027, enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, scoring 15 goals and providing 5 assists in 31 matches. Despite starting the new season with the Italian club, growing transfer speculation suggests he is set for a high-profile move.
Lookman has attracted interest from several European heavyweights. Barcelona and Arsenal monitored his situation but failed to make concrete approaches, while Inter Milan came close but could not persuade Atalanta, who are unwilling to strengthen a direct Serie A rival.
That has left Atlético Madrid in pole position. According to sources in Spain, the club is preparing a €70 million bid and is ready to hand Lookman a five-year contract. Manager Diego Simeone is said to be a huge admirer of the Nigerian’s dynamism and versatility in attack, identifying him as a perfect fit for his squad.
With Lookman’s market value estimated at €60 million by Transfermarkt, a deal at €70m would represent one of Atlético’s biggest investments in recent years. If completed, the move will see Lookman swap Italy for Spain in what promises to be one of the standout transfers of the summer.
