Nigeria’s women’s rugby league team made history on Tuesday with a stunning 10–0 victory over Ireland at Terry Fox Stadium in Brampton, Canada a result that ended Ireland’s hopes of qualifying for their first Rugby League World Cup.

Prop Fedelia Omoghan opened scoring in the 20th minute after sustained Nigerian pressure, while Rachel Iliya sealed the win late in the second half with a brilliant length of the field interception try. Faustina Akeje added the conversion to secure the famous win.

Despite Ireland’s dominance in possession and territory after halftime, Nigeria’s defense held firm to record a memorable clean sheet.

The victory marks Nigeria’s first win over a non African opposition and one of the most significant results in African rugby league history. The team now sit just one win away from a maiden 2026 Rugby League World Cup appearance.
